Some hotels in Zell am See-Kaprun have specialized in bicycle fans, some even have their own rental service and advise their guests on technology and tours. If you don't have your own bike but would still like to explore the area on two wheels, you will find a whole range of well-equipped sports shops, rental centers and service stations for everything to do with bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes. When things get going, the Zell am See-Kaprun app guides cyclists safely through the region using GPS navigation. You can get right into the middle of alpine cycling fun by pedaling or simply by taking the cable cars. With the Zell am See-Kaprun summer card, sports fans can experience even more. For leisure cyclists who like to take it easy, Zell am See-Kaprun has a large selection of easy and leisurely bike routes. On cycle paths or low-traffic side routes, for example, you can go around Lake Zell or on

Sections of the Tauern cycle path to the most beautiful places in Salzburger Land. If a tour is too long or too demanding, you can switch to an e-bike and, with the help of the electric motor, you can easily reach the most beautiful places and views. Designated e-bike tours with battery charging or changing stations ensure uninterrupted power. 

BY ROAD BIKE OR GRAVELBIKE: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ROUTES ON A VERY DIFFERENT TERRAIN

If you prefer to ride a racing bike, you can race almost silently along side roads with little traffic or climb the most beautiful pass roads in Salzburger Land - including fantastic mountain panoramas. On the sweaty uphill along the Großglockner High Alpine Road to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, after 26 bends and more than 1.700 meters in altitude, the view of the glaciers and the Großglockner makes all the effort worthwhile. By the way, Zell am See-Kaprun is also considered a triathlon hotspot: the 90-kilometer-long original IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship route can be explored by bike.

PURE ACTION: PARADISE FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS

Mountain bikers also get their money's worth in the Zell am See-Kaprun region. You can choose from gourmet tours on forest paths with lake and mountain views as well as sporty uphill routes and high alpine single trails. The hub for many varied MTB routes is the Hundstein, a striking grassy mountain with a 360-degree panorama.

With the tour from Kaprun to the Kitzsteinhorn, endurance bikers can enjoy a very special experience. The demanding tour leads from Kaprun over the Maiskogel to Alpine center on the Kitzsteinhorn at 2.450m and overcomes approx. 1.950 meters of altitude over a route length of 23 kilometers. All bike tours on the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel can be combined comfortably and enjoyably with the cable cars. Anyone who likes to have a blast down the valley will particularly enjoy the natural single trails on the Kitzsteinhorn. 

A trail on the Maiskogel provides even more variety. It is the perfect addition for all “downhill pilots” and offers thanks to its wide design and low slope

ideal introduction for beginners. Over 4,6 km from the MK-Maiskogelbahn mountain station at 1.570 m, it goes over numerous wide and narrow steep curves, waves and smaller jumps to the middle station at 1.137 m. Every Tuesday, “Trail Tuesday” is part of the weekly program for curious beginners or Even more experienced trail riders receive riding technique training with a guide on the Maiskogel.

A new pleasure mountain bike route also leads to Zell's local mountain. The route climbs almost 900 meters along wide forest paths up to the Schmittenhöhe. Once at the top there are various refreshment stops and an impressive panoramic view of the Pinzgau Grasberge, Lake Zell and the Hohe Tauern.
